  www.metromix.com can tell you where some of the local hot spots are in chicago as far as restaurants and bars...id suggest the downtown area and near north side for the really awesome places. Tavern on Rush is a nice restaurant (a bit on the pricy side though).
  
  definitely hit up millennium park and the sears tower if you can...the magnificent mile (downtown) or woodfield mall (in schaumberg) if you like shopping
